TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display):
TFT-LCD panels rely on liquid crystal materials that do not emit light on their own. Instead, a backlight unit provides illumination. Light passes through liquid crystal layers, polarizers, and a color filter. By applying voltage through TFTs embedded in the lower substrate, liquid crystal molecules shift orientation, modulating light polarization to control brightness and color.
OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode):
OLED are self-emissive. They use organic thin films coated on a glass substrate, combined with ITO transparent electrodes (anode) and metal electrodes (cathode). When voltage is applied, electrons and holes are injected into transport layers, recombine in the emissive layer to form excitons, and excite organic molecules to emit visible light directly.
This eliminates the need for a backlight.

Simpler, more economical process.
Lower efficiency due to filter light loss.
Blue OLED + Color Conversion Film (CCF):
Blue light with color conversion layers to generate red and green.
Technically challenging with low efficiency.
Not yet widely commercialized.
